Home Office Approves Additional Visas for University College London Overseas Learners
Hundreds international students will finally get to claim their offered university positions after talks between the Home Office and UCL concluded with the authorities granting additional student visas.
Visa Allowance Problems
Numerous of students, plenty from China, found themselves in uncertainty after the university miscalculated the interest for positions this year and surpassed its allowance of confirmation of acceptance for studies electronic documents allowed by the Home Office.
University Regret and Assistance
the institution issued an apology to those affected, telling them it was "extremely sorry for the interruption and uncertainty", and offering to cover £1,000 costs for applications made through UK Visa and Immigration's "fast-track option".
We're pleased to confirm our impacted international scholars that they can now commence their studies at UCL.
Exceptional Demand
The university said "an exceptional rise in interest" was caused by the excessive admissions, and had at first informed learners with confirmed spots that they should defer until the subsequent session, causing many to complain they experienced monetary setbacks after early booking for travel and housing.
Successful Resolution
Following discussions between UCL and the immigration authorities at the close of last weekend, students were informed that they would be granted study visas ultimately.
An official representative for University College London said: "We deeply express regret to all those who have been concerned by the ongoing confusion and we are extremely appreciative for their patience. Our personnel are now moving rapidly to reach out to learners individually with updates and help.
Learner Responses
Several students mentioned they had received emails from University College London within the recent couple of days confirming their study acceptance confirmations would be released, a crucial prerequisite to be issued a student visa. Several reported they had yet to been given verification.
A learner expressed: "I'm thrilled to be able to pursue education in the United Kingdom. We were advised many different things since last month, it was incredibly challenging. I was already obligated to arranging lodging in the capital, with non-refundable payments offered, so I am very relieved."
National Consequences
Roughly 200 applicants from East Asia were concerned, with a number already in the UK at the conclusion of the previous month for the beginning of the educational period. Those on graduate studies were informed they had to be on campus by 10 October or forfeit their spot.
We deeply appreciate for your patience with this process and we are truly apologetic for the disruption and confusion which this will have generated you.
